Reaction from Pezeşkiyan to Trump: Iran Favors Dialogue on Equal Terms

Iranian President, Masoud Pezeşkiyan, responded to US President Donald Trump’s “direct negotiation call” and threats against Iran by stating, “Iran favors dialogue on equal terms. You cannot threaten Iran on one hand and call for negotiations on the other.” President Masoud Pezeşkiyan met with government officials and a group of parliament members in Tehran on the occasion of the Nevruz Festival. During the meeting, he addressed President Trump’s “direct negotiation call” and threats towards Iran. Pezeşkiyan criticized Trump’s call, stating, “Iran favors dialogue on equal terms. You cannot threaten Iran on one hand and call for negotiations on the other. If you really want negotiations, what is the meaning of threats?” He called for unity in the face of internal threats, emphasizing the need to set aside internal disagreements and work together to address societal issues. Pezeşkiyan highlighted the economic challenges faced by the Iranian people, stressing the importance of focusing on increased production and efficient resource utilization while implementing social support programs. He mentioned the development of a new structure with the support of philanthropists and public participation to ensure that no individual goes hungry in Iran. Pezeşkiyan also discussed the letter diplomacy between the US and Iran, mentioning President Trump’s letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei expressing willingness to engage in nuclear agreement negotiations. Trump’s potential attack threats if a nuclear agreement is not reached and his preference for direct negotiations with Iran over using intermediaries were also addressed. President Trump reiterated the benefits of direct negotiations in his recent statements, arguing that such talks would be more effective than involving intermediaries.
