Reaction to Earthquake Opportunists: “Shut Down Those Charging 5,000 Lira for Concrete”

Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, expressed his disapproval towards companies charging exorbitant prices for concrete in earthquake zones. Kurum stated, “If they are pouring concrete for 5,000 TL, shut them down.”
During his visit to Malatya, Minister Kurum evaluated the work in earthquake zones. Leading a coordination meeting at Malatya Metropolitan Municipality, Minister Kurum criticized companies selling concrete for 5,000 lira per cubic meter in the earthquake zone.
“YOU TURN TO STEEL, CAN’T POUR CONCRETE” Minister Kurum questioned, “How can concrete cost 5,000 lira? If they will provide concrete at this price, we can make steel. Resolve this. Some pour concrete for a normal price of 1,800 lira. Let’s say it’s 2,200 normally. Let it be 2,500 lira at a distant place. But it can’t be 5,000 lira. If it is, we will turn to steel and won’t be able to pour 1 cubic meter of concrete. I won’t pay more than 3,000 lira for concrete there. Solve it within the limit of 3,000, or I will turn to steel.”
“LET’S RESOLVE THIS WITHIN A WEEK” Denouncing profiteering in the upcoming earthquake, Minister Kurum addressed Malatya Governor Seddar Yavuz, stating “If they are pouring concrete for 5,000 TL, shut them down. Let’s resolve this within a week.”
