Record Broken for Cargo Transport in 2024

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Uraloğlu, announced that the cargo transported in 2024 exceeded 1.38 billion, breaking a record. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the number of shipments, which was 681.3 million in the same period of the previous year, increased by 9.6% to approximately 746.68 million in the second half of 2024. Speaking about the Turkey Postal Sector Market Data Report for the second half of 2024 published by the Information Technologies and Communication Institution (BTK), Uraloğlu used the phrase, “In 2024, the total volume of transported mail and cargo surpassed 1.38 billion, marking a record of all time, with an 8.3% increase compared to 2023.” Uraloğlu reported that there are 52 authorized service providers in the sector, with 25 national and 37 local authorizations granted. He noted that Istanbul was the city with the highest number of authorizations at the local level, with 24 authorizations, followed by Izmir with 5 authorizations and Ankara with 4 authorizations. Uraloğlu also pointed out that as of the second half of last year, a total of 10,992 postal agencies and branches were serving throughout Turkey, with 1,955 in Istanbul, 753 in Ankara, and 576 in Izmir, providing employment for over 122,000 people in the postal sector. Minister Uraloğlu mentioned that approximately 3% of the shipments were delivered on the same day, and 80% were delivered within 2 days.
