Regulation on Eel Exportation

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has revised the principles for the allocation of eel export quotas. The Amendment on the Allocation of Eel (Anguilla Anguilla) Export Quotas and the Issuance of CITES Certificate Tebliğ, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has been published in the Official Gazette and come into effect. The tebliğ adjusts the principles for the allocation of eel export quotas. Accordingly, eel fishing, stock assessment of products obtained before the fishing ban, export permits, and the issuance of transport and origin certificates will be carried out in accordance with the principles set forth in the tebliğ published in the Official Gazette dated August 11, 2024, on the Regulation of Commercial Fisheries. When arranging sales declarations, companies wishing to export eels must use their SUBİS (Fisheries Information System) username and password. Companies not registered in SUBİS will be registered by provincial directorates and given a username and password. Each company operating in this field will prepare a separate sales declaration for each eel in each transport and origin certificate. PRINCIPLES FOR ISSUING FISHING CERTIFICATES Companies conducting eel exports must apply to the authorized provincial directorate for the issuance of a fishing certificate after completing the sales declaration entry. Based on the requested export quantity, a fishing certificate will be issued via SUBİS by the authorized provincial directorate. REQUIREMENTS FOR CITES CERTIFICATE Eel exports will be conducted according to the customs tariff statistics positions specified in the tebliğ on the Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora published in the Official Gazette on February 27, 2011. Those intending to export eels will submit their CITES certificate requests to the Ministry by using the https://citesbasvuru.tarimorman.gov.tr/ website. For those wishing to export live eels, the period between the approval date of the transport and origin documents presented during the application to the Directorate General of Fisheries and Aquaculture and the application date shall not exceed 15 days.
