Regulation to Reduce Bills by 25%

A new insulation application that will increase energy efficiency in buildings will start tomorrow. The regulation is expected to result in a reduction of up to 25% in energy bills. The Turkish Standards Institute (TSI) will make mandatory the “TS 825-Building Insulation Regulations Standard,” revised to increase energy savings in buildings and minimize heat loss. This standard, which is aimed at energy efficiency, was revised by the TSI on October 21, 2024, and updated. HEATING COSTS TO GO DOWN The updates in the standard were made in line with sector needs and technological developments. Through evaluations made with contributions from public institutions, civil society organizations, and experts in the field, the scope of TS 825 was expanded. The new regulation aims to reduce heating and cooling costs, use energy resources more efficiently, and contribute to environmental sustainability. NUMBER OF INSULATION ZONES INCREASED The insulation classification, previously divided into 4 zones, has been expanded to 6 zones considering climate conditions. With the regulation coming into effect on April 1, insulation calculations in buildings will be redone based on regional climate conditions. From the thermal performance of buildings to subsoil heat transfer, heating and cooling to energy requirements, and surface temperatures of building materials, rules are set according to the standards determined by the TSI. ENERGY BILLS TO DECREASE BY 25% Thus, it is expected that energy bills will decrease by up to 25% while maintaining comfort conditions in buildings. Additionally, it is aimed to achieve total energy savings of 2.5 terawatt-hours in newly constructed buildings each year, equivalent to three months of energy production at the Atatürk Dam. Furthermore, significant contributions to environmental sustainability will be made with a reduction of 600 million tons of carbon emissions annually. The revised TS 825 standard aims to accurately calculate the net heating and cooling energy needs of buildings, as well as optimize energy losses and gains. This way, energy consumption will be minimized, reducing costs for individual users and enhancing energy efficiency nationwide. CONTRIBUTION TO THE NATIONAL ECONOMY The objective is for the new regulations to not only benefit individual consumers but also make significant contributions to the national economy. Increasing insulation will enhance energy efficiency and reduce external dependency. At the same time, citizens will experience economic relief by paying lower energy bills. From an environmental perspective, reducing carbon emissions will be a critical step toward a sustainable future.
