Resignation of the US Ambassador to Ukraine

A spokesperson for the US Department of State announced that the US Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, has resigned from her position. This development marks a new chapter in US-Ukraine relations. The spokesperson stated, “Ambassador Brink is leaving her position after serving in a war zone for three years, which is a significant period of time.”

It was reported that Brink left her position voluntarily after being appointed to the role by former President Joe Biden in May 2022. While it is still unclear who will replace Brink, undisclosed sources have indicated that Christopher Welby Smith, who currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary in charge of Eastern Europe at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the US Department of State, is a prominent candidate.

In a post made after the Russian attack in Krivoy Rog that resulted in the deaths of 20 people, including 9 children, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized Brink for not explicitly holding Russia accountable for the attack. He stated, “Such a powerful country, such a strong people, yet such a weak response. They are even afraid to say the word ‘Russian’.”
