Following the battle against exorbitant prices in markets, restaurants are next in line. The Ministry of Industry and Technology, which gathers market prices on a single platform, is planning to take action for restaurants as well. It is anticipated that prices will be presented to the public through digital means. The struggle against exorbitant prices is now extending to restaurants. Following the “Market Price” application that reveals market price manipulations, action is being taken for restaurants. The Ministry of Industry and Technology and TÜBİTAK had launched the “marketfiyati.org.tr” platform for comparing market prices. The platform, which allows citizens to compare nearly 50 thousand products, received great interest in a short time. The platform, which hosted more than 1 million unique visitors in 3 days, facilitated millions of product comparisons. The platform revealed price differences of up to two times for the same product applied by chain markets such as A101, BİM, CarrefourSA, HAKMAR, MİGROS, Tarım Kredi, and ŞOK. Minister Kacır’s Statement Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır stated that a similar application could be implemented for restaurants as well. During a live broadcast on CNN Türk, Minister Kacır said, “A similar step could be taken for restaurants. We are discussing it. When you go to a restaurant, you can only see the prices when you reach the door. However, digital options are very common. The more we provide these digital opportunities to our citizens, the better it will be. This way, we also reveal opportunists. The steps we take are aimed at protecting both the consumer and the producer. Therefore, we will tighten these measures.” Kacır emphasized that this alone is not an event that will reduce inflation, stating, “These steps are fair and competition-enabling steps that will contribute to the fight against inflation. We will take steps to meet the expectations of our citizens.”
