Revealed: Cost Per Vehicle of the National Vehicle Recognition System

The Mint disclosed the cost per vehicle of the National Vehicle Recognition System. Dismissing claims that the chips used cost 5 liras, the Mint announced that the production cost was around 16-18 dollars. The General Directorate of the Mint and Stamp Printing House made a statement regarding the allegations related to the National Vehicle Recognition System (NVRS) Project. The statement included the necessity to inform the public correctly about the unfounded news, comments, and shares appearing in various media outlets and social media. The Mint expressed that the accusations of the chips costing 5 liras were deliberate, biased, and incorrect. The statement emphasized that NVRS is not just a system consisting of chips attached to vehicles. As of today, over 5 million orders for the Vehicle Recognition Unit placed via utts.gov.tr have been processed, with assembly operations completed for over 700 thousand vehicles. The claims regarding the cost of the chips used in NVRS were declared entirely false. The single chips used in Vehicle Recognition Units were reported to be priced around 8-10 dollars, while other parts were around 7-8 dollars each. It was stated that the total production cost of Vehicle Recognition Units alone is approximately 16-18 dollars. The statement also indicated that the investment, logistics, inventory, financing, sales, maintenance, repair, warranty, and operating expenses of NVRS are not included in this cost. The announcement from the Mint provided details that the sales price of the Vehicle Recognition Unit (chip) under NVRS is reported to be 1,413 liras + Installation + VAT, while the installation cost of Vehicle Recognition Units is 912 liras and is similarly applied by 3,385 authorized companies. The statement highlighted that similar chips sold in the private sector in Turkey cost around 1800 liras, and these chips have been used in over 2.5 million vehicles for more than 25 years.
