Russian Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Poland: Passengers Stranded on Plane for Over 13 Hours

Due to a snowstorm, a Russian passenger plane made an emergency landing in Poland, leaving 236 passengers stranded on the aircraft for over 13 hours. Russian citizens have been denied entry to Poland for tourism and business purposes since September 2022, following the Ukraine-Russia war.

A Russian passenger plane flying from Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad made an emergency landing in Poznan, Poland, yesterday due to a snowstorm.

After three unsuccessful landing attempts in Kaliningrad, the pilot requested an emergency landing permission at Chopin Airport in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. The request to land in Warsaw was denied, and the plane landed at Poznan Lawica Airport around 10:00 PM local time.

Authorities at Poznan Lawica Airport did not allow anyone to disembark from the plane. Despite passengers including elderly, children, and pregnant women, no provision of water, food, or refueling was made. The 236 passengers were kept waiting on the plane for over 13 hours until they were finally granted permission to take off in the morning. Passengers returning to Kaliningrad expressed their discontent with Polish officials on social media. While a visa is required for entry into Poland, Russian citizens with visas have been denied entry for tourism and business purposes in Poland since September 2022 due to the Ukraine-Russia war.
