Scrutiny on Fake Insured Workers: 400 Insured Workers in a 40 Square Meter Shop!

The fight against informal employment continues. Last year, it was determined that 2,114 workplaces were fake, resulting in the cancellation of insurance for 94,740 individuals who were falsely shown as insured or had their insurance premiums paid despite not working. In the recent inspections by the Social Security Institution (SGK), it was found that 400 textile workers were falsely registered as insured in a 40 square meter shop in the Fatih district of Istanbul. As part of the fight against informal employment, the SGK is closely monitoring fake workplaces and insured individuals through the “Fake Insured and Fake Workplace Tracking Platform.” Last year, 124,982 workplaces were inspected within the scope of combating informal employment, with 12,684 workplaces inspected for fake workplace and fake insured individuals. Out of these inspections, it was revealed that 2,114 workplaces were fake. The insurance of a total of 94,740 individuals who were falsely shown as insured or had their insurance premiums paid despite not working was canceled. A total of 2,036,732 Turkish liras in fines were imposed on these workplaces due to informal employment. In terms of integrating workplaces and employees into the social security system, the insurance of 21,634 individuals and the registration of 518 workplaces were ensured. There are two tables in the 40 square meter shop. Inspections targeting informal employment, fake workplaces, and fake insured individuals are carried out by around 3,000 inspectors. In a 40 square meter shop in Istanbul’s Fatih district, 400 individuals were falsely registered as textile workers. It was discovered that some of the insured individuals actually lived in different cities. The shop, measuring 40 square meters, was found to have only two tables and 10 chairs. In a different city, inspectors uncovered that 540 individuals were falsely insured in a consultancy firm operating in an apartment.
