Shocking Discovery in Mexico: Human Ovens Unearthed Underground

A chilling “extermination camp” was uncovered near the city of Guadalajara in Mexico. Hundreds of burnt bone fragments were found in the area where underground ovens were located. The camp is known to belong to Mexican cartels. A civilian search group made a hair-raising discovery near the city of Guadalajara in Mexico. Despite authorities carrying out a raid in the area months ago, they failed to uncover the graves which sparked outrage. According to the American Washington Post newspaper, tips had been circulating on a Facebook page for months. Messages indicated that there was a mass grave hidden in a village outside Guadalajara. Mexico has been struggling with a crisis of disappearances for years, with reports of over 110,000 people missing. The relatives of the missing have uncovered hundreds of graves filled with bodies. The newly discovered site is believed to be another graveyard. Following anonymous tips, the group searching for the missing in the Jalisco state, led by Indira Navarro, along with dozens of victims’ relatives, began investigating the abandoned farm outside La Estanzuela on March 5. They dug three underground ovens and found hundreds of burnt bone fragments there. It was noted that these bones belonged to skulls, fingers, and teeth. This place is referred to as an “extermination camp” by Mexicans. What shocked Mexicans the most were the shoes. According to WP, there were piles of shoes there with over 200 reported. Former chief justice of Mexico’s Supreme Court, Jose Ramon Cossio, said, “Of course, this immediately evokes the conditions of Auschwitz.” This discovery that shocked Mexicans made headlines on news bulletins. Citizens, the Catholic Church, and lawyers reacted strongly to the situation. Since 2008 when the Mexican army launched attacks against crime groups by creating their own private armies with the support of the U.S., the country has been rocked by extreme violence. Several other extermination camps have been found in Mexico and mass graves are being uncovered almost every week. However, the area in Jalisco caused a special terror. The camp is an indicator of how deeply crime groups have penetrated the Mexican economy. These groups not only traffic drugs to the U.S., but also extort businesses, “tax” migrant smugglers, and manage a wide range of contraband from fuel to wood. Since the discovery of the camp, several individuals have provided detailed explanations to Navarro and the Mexican media about what happened there. They said they arrived to meet with employers in the Guadalajara area but were instead taken to the farm and forced to undergo military-style training. Allegedly, those who did not fulfill orders or failed were killed and their bodies dismembered. Others died from thirst or beatings. It was said that the inexperienced soldiers were forced to dig pits and then build makeshift ovens from bricks and stones. According to some accounts, many of the people in the camp were taken against their will, while some volunteered to work for the criminal organization. The crime groups have grown so much that they have become major employers in Mexico. They constantly need to replenish their workforce as employees are either killed or imprisoned. A study published by Mexican and Italian researchers in 2023 stated that “it is essential to hire between 350 and 370 people weekly to prevent their collapse.” One reason the discovery of the camp caused so much anger was the fact that authorities were already aware of it. Officials said that national guards raided the farm last September, arresting 10 people, rescuing two kidnapped individuals, and discovering a body wrapped in plastic. State prosecutor Salvador Gonzalez de los Santos said that 10 government employees were scanning the area with excavators and dogs at the time, but did not find any other bodies. He stated that they could not “examine the entire farm” due to its vast size.
