Short selling banned on the Stock Exchange

The Capital Markets Board has decided to ban short selling transactions on the Borsa Istanbul A.S. equity markets and facilitate share buybacks by publicly traded companies. This decision will be valid until the end of the session on March 25.
In a statement issued by the CMB, it was stated:
Due to recent developments in the Borsa Istanbul A.S. markets, some measures have been taken by our Board. Ensuring the reliable, transparent, efficient, stable, fair, and competitive operation and development of the capital market for the protection of investors’ rights and interests, transactions carried out on the Borsa Istanbul A.S. are constantly monitored by our Board. In light of recent developments in the Borsa Istanbul A.S. markets, it has become necessary for our Board to take some precautions. Therefore, from March 24, 2025, until the end of the session on April 25, 2025, short selling transactions on the Borsa Istanbul A.S. equity markets are banned, making it easier for publicly traded companies to repurchase shares, and the relaxation of the equity ratio requirement will be applied during the continuation of margin trading transactions.
