Shortage of Hamsi at 100 Lira per Kilo: Sold out in a Short Time

In Edirne, the lowered price of hamsi brightened the fish markets. Upon hearing that it was selling for 100 lira per kilo, citizens lined up, and crates of hamsi were quickly sold out. With the cooling weather and abundance of fish in the seas, the price of hamsi in fish markets in Edirne dropped to 100 lira per kilo. Seeing the decrease in price, citizens formed long lines in front of the fish sellers. When the price of hamsi, which was sold for 250 lira per kilogram a few days ago, dropped to 100 lira, crates of fish were quickly sold out. The abundance experienced brought smiles to both the seller’s and citizen’s faces. After the abundance, hamsi found buyers at 100 lira per kilogram. The fisherman Yusuf Çimen, who stated that the price of hamsi, which was sold for 250 lira per kilogram last week, dropped to 100 lira this week, attributed the decrease in prices to the abundance of hamsi in the Black Sea. Expressing that there was intense demand from the public and that sales were going well, Çimen stated that they sold between 300-350 crates in a day and the interest continued. Çimen mentioned that long queues were formed from time to time, and that the end of the season was approaching, and there would be no further decrease in prices. Citizen Şakir Bertan stated that he came to buy fish with his friend and lined up to buy 10 kilos of fish. Bertan expressed that the decrease in prices was pleasing and stated that this situation was beneficial for low-income families to be able to buy fish. Sevgi Ergöl, who said she came to buy fish with her mother, stated that they loved hamsi fish and came to buy it when they saw the reduced price.
