Sinkhole with 20-meter width formed: Swallowed the house’s garden

In the village of Godstone in southern England, a large sinkhole with a width of 20 meters emerged, swallowing a garden while prompting the evacuation of 30 houses in the area.

A significant sinkhole occurred on Monday night in Godstone, England, expanding until Tuesday morning and engulfing a garden, leading to the evacuation of residents from approximately 30 surrounding houses.

Officials noted that the sinkhole widened to at least 20 meters, while residents of the evacuated homes were informed that the houses were constructed in an old sand quarry area about 3 years ago.

One of the area residents, Noosh Miri, described feeling like she was inside a waterfall when her door was urgently knocked on for evacuation. Another resident, Rez Mira, mentioned that his garden fell into the sinkhole, stating, “It collapsed, the wall will collapse for sure. We are very scared.”

As officials continue their investigation into the incident, the public has been warned to stay away from the site of the event.
