The Competition Authority has taken action regarding red meat prices before the Ramadan month. President Birol Küle stated, “We warn all sectors, and if necessary, we will expand our inspections.”

Birol Küle, President of the Competition Authority, warned about price fluctuations in the red meat sector ahead of Ramadan, saying, “If necessary, we will expand our inspections to cover more parties.” Küle made evaluations regarding the work conducted by the institution in the red meat sector. Pointing out the two dimensions of inspections for the red meat market, Küle stated that both the institution’s experts conduct unannounced inspections in companies and continuously monitor and analyze prices. President Küle emphasized that investigations and penalty applications for the agriculture and food sectors will continue to increase, stating, “We warn all sectors about price fluctuations before Ramadan, and if necessary, we will expand our inspections to cover more parties. Ensuring our citizens access food at reasonable prices is among our priorities.” “WE ARE CLOSELY MONITORING ALL STAKEHOLDERS” Pointing out that some companies and association presidents in the sector have made statements about prices before Ramadan, Küle continued his words by saying, “We observe manipulative statements about red meat prices through social media as well. We are closely monitoring all sector stakeholders. I want to warn all parties to stay away from behaviors that will cause price increases through certain actions outside supply-demand balance.” President Küle drew attention to the suspicion that manipulative price fluctuations not related to costs and behaviors that could cause them may violate the Law on the Protection of Competition, stating, “Our fines can reach very high amounts. Therefore, all stakeholders in the sector should set their prices solely based on their costs without being subject to any other influence.”
