Stock Market Starts the Day with a Decrease

In Borsa Istanbul, the BIST 100 index began the day with a 0.47% decline at 9,567.76 points.

At the opening, the BIST 100 index decreased by 45.07 points and 0.47% to 9,567.76 points compared to the previous close.

While the banking index lost 0.80% of its value, the holding index gained 0.02% in value.

Among sector indices, forest paper printing had the highest gain with 0.61%, while chemical petroleum plastic had the highest loss with 2.39%.

In the domestic market, the BIST 100 index, which followed a sales-dominated trend yesterday, ended the day with a 0.38% loss at 9,612.84 points.

Global markets followed a negative trend amid concerns that trade wars could escalate further before the tariff decisions to be announced in the US next week, with focus now on personal consumption expenditure data to be released in the US today.

Moreover, a summary of the Turkish Republic Central Bank’s (CBRT) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) interim meeting on March 20 was published yesterday. The summary stated that proactive measures were taken to limit the upward risks on the inflation outlook by reducing the volatility in financial asset prices.

Additionally, the summary mentioned that in case of a significant and lasting deterioration in inflation, the monetary policy stance would be tightened.

Analysts stated that today, the domestic economic confidence index, and internationally the US personal consumption expenditures (PCE), University of Michigan consumer confidence index, growth in the UK, and unemployment rate in Germany would be monitored. They also noted that technically, the BIST 100 index had support levels at 9,500 and 9,400 points, and resistance levels at 9,650 and 9,750.
