Stock market starts the week positively

The first trading day of the week saw an increase in buying on the stock market. The BIST 100 index rose by more than 3%. The BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul started the week at 9,167 points with a gain of 1.35%. Following the opening, the rise in the BIST 100 index exceeded 3%. The banking index saw an increase of more than 4%. Among the sector indices, transportation was the biggest gainer with a 2.52% increase, while textiles and leather were the biggest losers with a 1.39% decrease. The BIST 100 index had tested the 9,000 points mark last week with a drop of over 15%. SHORT SELLING BANNED Due to potential market volatility, some measures were implemented yesterday. Short selling was banned for a month in Borsa Istanbul, and decisions were announced to facilitate buyback of shares. The order-to-trade ratio (OTR) in the stock market was reduced from 5:1 to 3:1 between March 24, 2025, and April 25, 2025 (until the end of the session). The threshold value exceeding fee for the order-to-trade ratio was raised from 0.25 TL to 0.50 TL as of March 24, 2025. It was stated that this practice aims to narrow down the trading operations of algorithms.
