Striking Claim Regarding Milk: “Should Be Urgently Removed from Shelves”

Milk producers have reacted to low-fat milk sold in stores. Claiming that milk with 0.1% fat is harmful to human health, producers demanded these products to be removed from shelves. Producers opposed the sale of low-fat milk on the market. Vice President of the Turkey Milk Producers Central Union, Cihat Şimşek, criticized the 0.1% fat milk placed on shelves since November. Şimşek, who claims that milk with 0.1% fat is harmful to human health, said, “You cannot make cheese or yogurt from this milk. It lacks fat. It is used for irrigation purposes.” Pointing out that industrialists give bonuses based on fat content when buying milk, Şimşek said, “Having 0.1% fat means it is fat-free. They declare the unextracted fat as 0.1%. Its price is lower compared to others.” Şimşek emphasized that these milks are cheaper by saying, “We demand the removal of this product, which is of poor quality, akin to water, and resembles milk in color, from the shelves.” Milk producers also called for the closure of companies that have repeatedly appeared on the list of those engaging in adulteration and deception.
