Sweden Sets Example: Smartphones Banned in Schools

The Swedish government has made the decision to ban the use of smartphones in primary and secondary schools.
Sweden’s Minister of Education, Lotta Edholm, announced that smart mobile phones have been prohibited in primary and secondary schools nationwide.
According to their scientific research, Edholm stated that students would feel better about themselves in classes without cell phones, and that smartphones distract students’ attention, negatively impacting exam results, was the reason behind this decision. Edholm indicated that before entering the classroom, students’ cell phones will be collected, locked in a box, and stored, while teachers will not use their cell phones during the lessons and will keep them in a place they deem appropriate. Edholm announced that the ban on smart cell phones in schools will come into effect starting from July 1, 2026.
