The hazelnut season has begun in the Black Sea region

The new season of hazelnut producers in the Black Sea region has started. Producers in Trabzon, Ordu, and Giresun are clearing the wild weeds in their gardens and fighting bugs. In preparation for the 2025 harvest season, hazelnut producers in Trabzon, Ordu, and Giresun have begun their preparations. To increase productivity and quality, producers are working hard to have a good season as hazelnut branches begin to sprout. They are clearing the wild weeds in their gardens and will also be battling pests like cone-gall mites and brown marmorated stink bugs. Eyyüp Ergan, the Chairman of the Trabzon Commodity Exchange, emphasized that hazelnuts are an important product for the country and the region’s economy. Ergan mentioned that there are specific tasks to be done throughout the year for hazelnuts based on the months; this is referred to as the “hazelnut farming calendar.” He stated that producers are currently clearing the wild weeds in their gardens and added, “After this, there will be work related to fighting pests and fertilizing hazelnut trees. We provide advice to both producers and members on what needs to be done in this regard.”
