It has been claimed that North Korea is behind the attack. Bybit, a cryptocurrency exchange, was targeted in a cyberattack. It was confirmed that $1.5 billion worth of Ethereum was stolen in the attack. This incident is considered the biggest cyber theft in crypto history. CEO of Bybit, Ben Zhou, announced that an approximate total of 401,000 Ethereum was seized in the initial findings. It is estimated that the stolen assets are worth $1.5 billion. According to a statement from the exchange, the Ethereum cold wallet was attacked, and all assets in the wallet were sent to an unknown address. The statement indicated that all other cold wallets are secure and that transactions are proceeding normally. CRYPTOCURRENCIES FLUCTUATED After the cyberattack, cryptocurrency prices fluctuated. Bitcoin, which surpassed $99,000 yesterday, dropped to $96,200 following the news of the cyberattack. BTC is currently trading around $96,300 with a 0.2% increase today. Ethereum also dropped from around $2,850 to $2,600. WHO IS BEHIND THE ATTACK? Blockchain analysis company Arkham Intelligence alleged that the North Korean Lazarus Group was behind the attack on Bybit. Arkham announced that it would give approximately 50,000 ARKM tokens worth $30,000 to individuals who could detect the attack. ZachXBT, known as a chain-over detective on social media, claimed there is solid evidence pointing towards a North Korean hacker group being behind the attack.
