TikTok’s Sale Turns into a Never-Ending Story

The sale of TikTok promised by US President Trump has turned into a never-ending story. It was claimed that the transfer of TikTok following the trade tensions between the US and China has been suspended.
The deal involving the divestment of TikTok’s assets in the US was put on hold after China hinted it would not approve the agreement in response to the customs duties announced by US President Donald Trump. Trump, in his statement on Friday, extended the deadline given to Chinese company ByteDance to divest TikTok’s US assets to 75 days. According to a law that will take effect in January 2024, if ByteDance does not sell TikTok by the end of this period, the app will be banned in the US. A source familiar with the matter stated that the draft agreement had been largely completed as of Wednesday, and it was envisaged that TikTok’s US operations would be transferred to a new company to be established in the country, majority-owned by US investors. The same source indicated that the sale plan had also been approved by ByteDance, current and new investors, as well as the US government. However, ByteDance announced on Saturday morning that there were still some disagreements between the parties.
