News of U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff decisions and Federal Reserve (Fed) Chairman Jerome Powell’s cautious stance on interest rate cuts are influencing asset prices, with today’s focus being on inflation data from the U.S. and Powell’s upcoming presentation. Trump signing the decree imposing a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports, in addition to applying tariffs to key trading partners of the U.S., is fueling concerns of potential “trade wars.” The fear that Trump’s decisions may increase inflationary pressures in the U.S. and that the Fed, which has made significant progress in combating inflation so far, may narrow its policy space in the future, is another factor complicating pricing. Analysts note that the domestic data agenda will be calm today, while inflation data from the U.S. and statements from Fed Chairman Powell will be closely monitored internationally. From a technical perspective, they highlight 108.5 as resistance and 107.5 as support levels for the Dollar index.
