Train Services from Van to Tehran Set to Begin

Today, the passenger train from Van to Tehran will depart from Tehran. The first trip from Van will take place tomorrow. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the passenger train from Van to Tehran will depart from Tehran today, with the first trip from Van scheduled for tomorrow. In his written statement, Uraloğlu reminded that the decision to resume the Van-Tehran passenger train services was made following negotiations with Iran. Uraloğlu pointed out that railway cooperation between Turkey and Iran is crucial for strengthening regional transportation and increasing tourism activity. He expressed that the resumption of train services from Van to Tehran will enhance both economic and cultural ties.
TRAINS TO OPERATE TWICE A WEEK
Uraloğlu mentioned that the train, operated by the Iranian Passenger Transportation Company (RAJA), consists of 7 compartments with a capacity of 40 passengers and will operate on a mutual basis twice a week. He stated, “The train in question will depart from Tehran today. It will depart from Van towards Tehran on Monday, March 10. The Van-Tehran passenger train will depart from Tehran on Sundays and Wednesdays, and from Van on Mondays and Thursdays. Travelers will experience a pleasant 22-hour journey in railway comfort.”
TRANSPORTED 10 THOUSAND PASSENGERS
Uraloğlu recalled that the Van-Tehran passenger train carried approximately 10 thousand passengers in 2019 and 2020, until it was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He stated, “This project is a significant step towards enhancing international collaborations in Turkey’s railway transportation.”
