Transformer Explodes in Panama: Large Parts of the Country Left Without Electricity

Due to a transformer explosion in Panama, a significant portion of the country was left without electricity.
According to a news report in the national press, there was a power outage across the country as a result of a transformer explosion at the Pan Am Power Plant in the city of La Chorrera. Panama’s President Jose Raul Mulino mentioned on X social media platform that the damage at the plant was extensive. Mulino expressed his frustration by stating, “I am left without electricity in Boquete. An unforgivable situation. The damage seems to be substantial. I will immediately request reports from the National Public Services Authority (ASEP) and the Energy Secretariat for them to take action accordingly. This level of poor service is unacceptable.” ASEP Director Zelmar Rodriguez Crespo confirmed that the widespread power outage in the country was indeed due to the transformer explosion, and he assured that teams were working on resolving the issue. A similar incident occurred in Panama in 2023, leading to a prolonged blackout for millions of people nationwide.
