Trump announces customs duty for automotive sector: 25% tariff on all imported vehicles

US President Donald Trump has announced that a 25% customs duty will be imposed on “all cars not produced in the US”. Trump signed an executive order to apply a 25% customs tariff on imported cars and trucks with the aim of increasing domestic production. Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the White House, Trump described this as the “beginning of America’s Independence Day”. Trump stated, “What we will do is to impose a 25% customs duty on all cars not produced in the US.” He also mentioned that no tariff would be applied if the cars are produced in the US, and that companies are returning to the US to avoid paying customs duty.
