Trump Criticizes Zelensky for Starting War and Expecting Missiles

President of the United States, Donald Trump, defended that the Russia-Ukraine War was initiated by former President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, by stating, “You don’t start a war against someone 20 times bigger and then expect people to give you missiles.” During a meeting with El Salvador President Nayib Bukele at the White House, President Trump made comments regarding the Russia-Ukraine War. Trump cautiously spoke about whether the process between Russia and Ukraine is slowing down, emphasizing that his sole aim is to end this war as soon as possible and reach an agreement between the parties. Trump reiterated the claim that the war started because of these two individuals by saying, “The mistake was allowing this war to begin. If Biden and Zelensky were competent individuals, this war wouldn’t have happened.” Continuing his remarks, Trump stated, “This was Biden’s war, and I am trying to stop it, and I believe we are doing a good job.” Trump criticized the Ukrainian government for wanting to procure Patriot air defense missiles from the U.S. for a long time by saying, “When you start a war, you need to know you can win that war. You can’t start a war with a country 20 times bigger than you and then expect people to give you missiles.” Trump also expressed his belief that if he had won the 2020 elections, the Russia-Ukraine War would never have started, and Russian President Vladimir Putin would not have engaged in war during his presidency. Trump concluded by saying, “Zelensky kept asking for more, this war should have never happened. Look at Putin. If I were president, he would have never gone (to war), but I’m not saying anyone is an angel.” Steve Witkoff, Special Representative of President Trump, met with Russian President Putin in Moscow last week and stated that the White House meeting went positively and constructively.
