Trump Gives Iran a 2-Month Deadline

According to a report, US President Donald Trump has sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, allowing a two-month period to reach a new nuclear deal.
A US official and two sources familiar with the letter told Axios that President Donald Trump’s letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has given a two-month deadline to reach a new nuclear deal. Iran’s nuclear program has significantly advanced in the past four years and has come closer than ever to producing nuclear weapons. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran’s stocks of enriched uranium at 60% would be enough to make six nuclear bombs if enriched to 90%. Iran denies allegations of pursuing nuclear weapons. Two weeks ago, in an interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, Trump revealed that he had sent a letter directly offering negotiations to Khamenei. The following day, Trump stated that the US was nearing the end of reaching an agreement with Iran and emphasized, “We cannot let them have a nuclear weapon. Something will happen very soon. I prefer a peaceful agreement, but the other option will also solve the problem.” While avoiding direct confrontation, Iran’s UN mission did not respond to journalists’ questions.
Khamenei described Trump’s letter and negotiation offer as a “deception to pressure the world by portraying Iran as the non-negotiating party.” On the other hand, Iran’s UN mission hinted that some discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear program could be possible through a statement. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the letter is still under review, and a response will be given soon. Trump also stated in his latest social media post that the Houthis will be “completely eradicated” and warned Tehran to stop aiding the Houthis. Trump said, “Iran must IMMEDIATELY stop sending these materials. Let the Houthis fight among themselves. They lose either way, but this way they lose quickly.”
