During a press briefing at the White House, Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt answered agenda questions regarding mutual customs tariffs. Referring to the mutual customs tariffs that will start tomorrow, Leavitt argued that the United States has been unfairly taxed by many countries on customs tariffs. Explaining how this changed with the arrival of President Donald Trump, Leavitt mentioned that from now on, the United States will apply taxes in the same amount as the tax imposed by any country on the United States.

Our country has been one of the most open economies in the world and we have the best consumer base, but many foreign countries have closed their markets to our exports. This is truly an unfair situation. This situation is now changing.” The American spokesperson commented, “The days when Americans were robbed will be left behind starting tomorrow.” and added, “If you produce your product in America, you won’t pay customs tariffs. It’s as simple as that.”

“THE TRUE INDEPENDENCE DAY OF THE US” Leavitt expressed that due to Trump’s policy, major companies have already announced investments worth billions of dollars to avoid paying customs tariffs in the United States, and this trend will continue. She noted that this policy will ultimately serve the interests of the American people and everyone will be pleased with it. President Trump had announced that mutual customs tariffs would start on April 2, which he described as “the true independence day of the US,” and had also emphasized that a 25% customs tariff for cars not produced in the US would also begin on that date.
