During the official visit, United States President Donald Trump met with Italy Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the White House.

When asked about the possibility of not reaching a trade agreement with the EU after a 90-day delay on reciprocal tariffs, Trump replied, “There will be a 100% trade agreement.” Trump added, “They really want to make a deal, and we will make a trade agreement. I expect this, but of course, it will be a fair trade agreement.” When questioned if Europe is among the trade priorities, Trump responded, “Not everyone is on my priority list.” He also stated, “THE U.S. HAS BEEN ROBBED BY ALMOST EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD” When referring to recent negotiations with Japan, Trump highlighted that they have made progress in trade talks with countries like Italy and Japan. Emphasizing past weaknesses in U.S. trade policies, Trump stated, “The U.S. has been robbed, exploited by almost every country in the world. This will no longer happen. We will make fair agreements.”

Trump criticized the administration of former President Joe Biden, claiming that significant losses were experienced in trade during Biden’s term. Referring to the imposition of tariffs on China and the subsequent losses attributed to “a fraudulent election,” Trump mentioned that his administration had put the country back in a strong position in trade. He hinted that important agreements would be made with many countries in the short term, stating, “Everyone wants to trade with us because we have what everyone wants.” NATO AND DEFENSE SPENDING Trump also addressed NATO obligations, expressing satisfaction with Italy’s commitment to increasing defense spending, stating, “We are pleased that Italy is reaching the 2% target.”

“NO ONE CAN COMPETE WITH US” When asked about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visits to some European countries, Trump expressed no concerns, saying, “No one can compete with us.”

“I AM HERE FOR COOPERATION WITH TRUMP” Italy Prime Minister Meloni emphasized their openness to collaborating with Trump, saying, “I believe we can make a deal with Trump. I cannot speak on behalf of the European Union, but I would like to invite the President to make an official visit to Italy.” Meloni also stressed the need for a more transparent approach in trade agreements with Europe, considering mutual needs, saying, “We must find a middle ground because it will benefit everyone. Some may describe me as a Western nationalist, but I am in search of a stronger partnership.”
