Trump: Putin Will Keep His Word, Won’t Reoccupy Ukraine if Peace is Achieved

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that he does not believe Russia would attempt a new invasion if a peace agreement is signed with Ukraine. During a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House, Trump made remarks on the current affairs in the Oval Office. When asked how much he trusted Russian President Vladimir Putin if a peace agreement is reached with Ukraine, Trump said, “I don’t think Putin will attempt a new invasion if a peace agreement is signed.” Trump emphasized his belief in Putin keeping his word, stating, “I have known him for a long time, I don’t believe he will break his promise. I don’t think he will return once we make a deal. I think the agreement will be valid. Both Russia and Ukraine will have security.”
“I CAN’T BELIEVE I CALLED ZELENSKY A DICTATOR” In his previous statements, Trump referred to the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenskiy, as a “dictator,” but backtracked on those comments when asked about it. He responded to the question, “Would you still use the term dictator for Zelenskiy?” by saying, “Did I say that? I can’t believe I said that.”
PEACEKEEPING FORCES AFTER PEACE AGREEMENT Trump also evaluated when peacekeeping forces could be sent to Ukraine, explaining that their priority is to reach a peace agreement first. Trump said, “You are talking about a peace force, but first, we should make an agreement. We don’t have an agreement yet. We have made significant progress on the agreement, but we haven’t reached one yet. That’s why I don’t want to discuss peacekeeping forces until we have an agreement.”
RARE EARTH ELEMENTS AGREEMENT TO BE SIGNED WITH ZELENSKY Additionally, Trump mentioned that Zelenskiy would be visiting the White House the next day and that they would be signing an agreement on rare earth elements. Trump spoke about his good relationship with both Putin and Zelenskiy, saying, “Probably we will sign this agreement together in front of the media. We want to work with President Zelenskiy. I think we actually had a good relationship with Zelenskiy, but maybe our relationship got a little aggressive.” He said the reason for this was that they couldn’t get back the money they gave to Ukraine.
“WE HAVE ISSUES WITH THE EU” When it comes to the relations between the United States and the European Union (EU), Trump mentioned, “We have issues with the EU because they impose tariffs on us. We will reciprocate with tariffs of our own.”
INVITATION FROM KING CHARLES TO TRUMP During the meeting, UK Prime Minister Starmer handed Trump a letter from King Charles officially inviting him to the UK. In response to the invitation, Trump said, “This is really special, it has never happened before. I will visit the UK soon.”
“UKRAINE’S NATO MEMBERSHIP WON’T HAPPEN” Trump, when asked, stated that Ukraine’s NATO membership will not happen, as this issue is the root of the problem.
