Trump threatens EU with a 200% tax on alcohol imports

President Trump has threatened the European Union with a 200% customs duty on all alcohol imports. U.S. President Donald Trump announced that if the 50% customs duty on whiskies produced in the U.S. is not lifted soon, he will apply a 200% customs duty on all alcoholic products imported from the EU. Trump made the statement regarding the 50% customs duty rate imposed by the EU on whiskies imported from the U.S. through his Truth Social account. Describing the EU as the “world’s most hostile and exploitative tax authority,” Trump reiterated his view that the EU was established to “take advantage of the U.S.” Reminding about the EU’s decision to impose a 50% customs duty on U.S. produced whiskies, Trump stated, “If this duty is not lifted immediately, the U.S. will apply a 200% duty on all wine, champagne, and alcoholic products coming from France and other EU countries in a short period of time. This will be great for wine and champagne businesses in the U.S.”
