US Secretary of State Rubio addressed President Trump’s views on Iran, stating that if you force him to choose between engaging with a nuclear Iran, he will act.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed Iran in an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt. He expressed Trump’s readiness to do whatever it takes to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, saying, “He is a president who currently seeks peace. If you ask him, he will say he prefers to resolve this diplomatically without war. That will always be his choice. However, if you force him to choose between engaging with a nuclear Iran, he will act.” Rubio noted that other countries joining the US or not would not determine their actions, as a world where Iran possesses nuclear weapons is unacceptable. Rubio stated that if Trump decides to take action to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear capacity, the US has the capability to do so and threaten the regime in Iran. Rubio emphasized that the Foreign Ministry advocates for peace, not war, stating, “The President has clearly stated a preference for this as well. So I always say that I very much want to resolve this through the Foreign Ministry but if we can’t, then I have to hand this over to Pete Hegseth at the Ministry of Defense. We prefer to resolve this through the Foreign Ministry but you need a willing partner to do so.” “IRAN WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE”

Rubio stated that missiles launched by Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen targeting US ships in the Red Sea were intercepted 100 miles away and did not pose a threat. He indicated that Iran would be held responsible for any support provided to the Houthis. Rubio commented on President Trump’s post in the morning stating that Iran continues to assist the Houthis. “Maybe not as openly as in the past, maybe not as much as in the past, but clearly they are helping them. They are still helping them. This is unacceptable and needs to change.”
