Trump’s Plan to Attract Investment to the US: Selling “Golden Cards” to Foreigners for 5 Million Dollars

US President Donald Trump has made a controversial decision to attract investors to the country. Trump announced that they will sell the “golden card” to foreign investors for 5 million dollars, which will open the way for residency and US citizenship in the United States.

Trump said, “For example, 1 million cards would be worth 5 trillion dollars. If we sell 10 million cards, it would amount to 50 trillion dollars. I know some Russian oligarchs, they are very good people.” EB-5 Investor Visa Program to be Terminated Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick also described the EB-5 investor visa as “nonsense” and argued that it was a way to obtain a green card at a low price.
Lutnick stated that they would end the EB-5 program and explained that Trump wanted to introduce the “golden card” program in place of this program. Lutnick mentioned that thorough scrutiny would be necessary for individuals buying the golden card and said, “Of course, they will need to go through a review, but they can come to America to make sure they are wonderful global citizens at world standards.” The green card provides holders with the right to live and work indefinitely in the US. The EB-5, a visa program designed for investor immigrants in the US, allows for obtaining a green card by investing a certain amount and creating employment in the country.
