Trump’s Statement on Tariffs: Progressing Well and Quickly

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that they are progressing well in their tariff policy, noting that they are moving rapidly on the issue. Trump made the announcement on the Truth Social platform. Emphasizing the positive progress in tariff policy, Trump used the phrase, “Very exciting for America and the world. Moving quickly.” Since returning to office in January, President Trump has announced customs duties for various countries and sectors. Most recently, Trump revealed mutual tariffs ranging from 10 to 50 percent, tailored for each country last week. He also mentioned that additional tariffs will be suspended for non-retaliatory countries for 90 days, with a base tariff of 10 percent applied during this period. Additionally, Trump raised the “reciprocal” tariff rate to 125 percent for China in response to retaliatory tariffs. As a result, the current tariff rates, including those imposed on China due to the fentanyl crisis, reached 145 percent. The existing tariff rates imposed by the U.S. include 25 percent for imports from Mexico and Canada outside the USMCA agreement, 25 percent for automobile, steel, and aluminum imports, and 10 percent for imports from all other countries.
