Turkey Wealth Fund Paid Off Turkish Telecom Debt Early

The Wealth Fund has early repaid the debt of the credit used for Turkish Telecom. Consequently, the fund saved more than 150 million dollars in interest. The Turkey Wealth Fund (TVF) achieved more than $150 million in interest savings by early repaying the debt of the credit used in 2022 to acquire 55% of Turk Telekom’s shares. According to the TVF statement, the Turkey Wealth Fund obtained the opportunity to make an early payment of a credit for the first time, thanks to strong cash flow and cost-effective financing sources. The refinancing process for the credit used for Turk Telekom in 2022 was successfully completed, resulting in more than $150 million in interest savings. During this process, a total of $634 million in credit debt, including the 2025 principal installment, was repaid early, while the remaining balance was refinanced with a new $750 million credit with a 5-year term. With the new credit, the end-of-term balloon payment structure from the previous agreement was removed; installments were spread over the entire term, and the payment plan was made suitable for TVF’s cash flow. Additionally, the restrictions on revenues to be obtained from Turk Telekom under the old credit were lifted, allowing for these revenues to be used more freely.
