The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) disclosed the provinces rich in foreign currency. Istanbul became the city with the highest amount of foreign currency in Turkey. When compared to population and foreign currency deposit data, the amount of foreign currency deposits per capita increased the most in Batman in the last year. The three provinces where foreign currency deposits decreased were Siirt, Yalova, and Hatay.

While economic policies in Turkey increased interest in the Turkish Lira, the outflows from the Exchange Rate Protected Deposits (ERPD) also fell below 1 trillion TL. However, except for three provinces, the other provinces in Turkey continued to accumulate foreign currency.

ISTANBUL LEADS IN FOREIGN CURRENCY

According to CNBC-e’s news compiled from the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency’s (BRSA) FinTürk database on foreign currency deposits, Istanbul, the financial center of Turkey, continues to lead the country in foreign currency transactions.

According to BRSA data, Istanbul has a total of 2 trillion 575 billion 235 million TL in foreign currency deposits. The amount of foreign currency deposits per capita in Istanbul is 164,000 TL in 2024. This figure was 15,324 TL in 2023 and saw an increase of 5.59% in the last year.

The province with the lowest amount of foreign currency deposits per capita was Hakkari. While the total amount of foreign currency deposits in Hakkari in 2024 was 1 billion 623 million 805 thousand TL, the amount of foreign currency deposits per capita was 5,754 TL. Following Hakkari in this area are Şanlıurfa with 5,958 TL and Şırnak with 5,971 TL.

After Istanbul, the other provinces with total foreign currency deposits are Ankara with 765 billion 795 million 325 thousand TL, Izmir with 289 billion 820 million 502 thousand TL, and Antalya with 202 billion 925 million 246 thousand TL. THE PROVINCE WITH THE MOST FOREIGN CURRENCY INFLOW Batman was the province that saw the highest increase in foreign currency deposits per capita in the last year nationwide. While there is a total of 9 million 640 thousand TL in deposits in Batman, the growth rate in the last year was 50.41%. Following Ardahan in second place, Bilecik ranks third with a growth rate of 44.09%. The total foreign currency deposits in Bilecik amount to 5 million 873 thousand 492 TL. ONLY 3 PROVINCES SOLD FOREIGN EXCHANGE The latest evaluations on foreign currency deposits in Turkey revealed that the province with the least amount of foreign currency deposits was Ardahan. According to statistics based on data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), the total foreign currency deposits in Ardahan were recorded as 1 million 137 thousand 251 TL. This figure represents the lowest level nationwide. However, another noteworthy data is Ardahan being among the provinces that saw the biggest increase in foreign currency deposits per capita in the last year, with a growth rate of 58.77%.
