Turkish father and son hailed as heroes in Sweden

A fire broke out in an apartment building in the capital city of Stockholm, Sweden. Turkish father Mesut Zengin and his son Furkan Zengin, who entered the building and saved many neighbors, were declared as “heroes” in the country.
Mesut Zengin and his 14-year-old son Furkan Zengin, who live in the Prastgardsvegen neighborhood in Upplands Vasby district of Stockholm, were hailed as “heroes” in Sweden for entering the burning apartment building and rescuing many neighbors. Zengin, who stated that he came to Sweden from Kulu district of Konya in 2006, said they were leaving the house to take his son to practice when they saw flames engulfing the balcony of their neighbor living on the 4th floor.
Zengin said, “When I noticed the flames on the balcony, I asked my son Furkan to ring the doorbells of all the apartments and inform the neighbors that there was a fire. I also rang the doorbell of my neighbors on the 3rd floor and made sure they got out.” He also mentioned that he saved an elderly couple living on the 4th floor where the fire broke out by using fire extinguishers to control the flames. Zengin added, “I fainted outside because I inhaled a high amount of smoke.” He stated that he received initial treatment in the ambulance and described how his wife and child were overwhelmed with tears when they saw his condition. Zengin revealed that he spent 2 days in the hospital receiving treatment for inhaling poisonous smoke while fighting the fire, and expressed gratitude for the care he received during his hospital stay. Emphasizing that Turks are a generous nation, Zengin highlighted their actions. Furkan Zengin, on the other hand, expressed his fear upon seeing his father unconscious in the ambulance.
