Turkish Signature on the World’s Largest Electric Ferry: 143 Meters Long, Capacity of 200 Cars

Minister Uraloğlu reported that the world’s largest electric ferry, produced by a Turkish shipyard in Yalova, is now operating in Norwegian waters. Exported to Norway in 2021, the ferry, with a length of 143 meters, 600 passengers, capacity for 200 cars, and 24 trucks, has been registered as the world’s largest electric ferry in its class. Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu noted that the Turkish shipyard in Yalova has produced the world’s largest electric ferry with its environmentally friendly technology, now serving in Norwegian waters.

Minister Uraloğlu stated, “Turkish shipyards are no longer only shaping our own fleet but also contributing to projects that influence global maritime industry. With eco-friendly and innovative ships, we continue to be a strong player in the global market.” Reminding that in 2021 the ferry exported to Norway is the largest electric ferry of its class with its 143-meter length, capacity for 600 passengers, 200 cars, and 24 trucks, Uraloğlu highlighted, “The ferry operates entirely with Lithium ION batteries, decreasing carbon emissions by 80%. The world’s largest electric ferry, manufactured in Yalova, is serving in the Oslo Fjord.”

Minister Uraloğlu emphasized Turkey’s sustainable and green maritime goals, saying, “We see the signature of Turkish engineering in the world’s oceans with ships that consume less fuel, protect nature, and enhance energy efficiency.” Providing information about the technical specifications of the ferry, Uraloğlu mentioned that among passenger ferries, this ferry is one of the vehicles with the highest battery capacity at 4.3 MW, with the ability to quickly recharge during passenger loading and unloading, thereby maximizing operational efficiency.

Finally, drawing attention to green transformation and eco-friendly transportation policies, Minister Uraloğlu stated, “By closely monitoring future technologies in maritime industry, we are increasing our country’s strength in maritime transport day by day. Turkey is rapidly progressing towards sustainable maritime goals.”
