Ukraine Signs Credit Agreement with the United Kingdom for Weapon Production

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the signing of a credit agreement with the United Kingdom, stating that the funds would be directed towards weapon production in Ukraine. In a post on the social media platform X, Zelensky mentioned that during his meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London, they discussed the challenges Ukraine and Europe face, coordinated efforts, steps to strengthen Ukraine’s position against Russia, and ending the war with a fair peace and security guarantees. Zelensky highlighted Starmer’s principled support and informed of the credit agreement signed between Ukraine and the UK. He expressed that the funds from this agreement would be directed towards weapon production in Ukraine, stating, “This credit will enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities and will be repaid using income from frozen Russian assets. This is genuine justice. The one who starts a war must pay the price. I thank the people and government of the UK for the tremendous support they have provided since the beginning of the conflict. We are happy to have such a strategic partner and share the same vision for a secure future.” The video shared by Zelensky included moments when the finance ministers of the two countries signed the agreement via a video call. Following the White House meeting, Zelensky arrived in London after the controversial discussion with U.S. President Donald Trump. The debate during the Oval Office meeting led to the cancellation of the planned joint press conference, with Zelensky departing the White House. While Trump criticized the attitude of the Ukrainian leader during the debate, Zelensky expressed his expectations for support for his country. Consequently, the rare earth elements agreement was left unsigned. President Trump, in a statement on the Truth Social account after the heated debate in the Oval Office, argued that Zelensky was not yet prepared for peace. In an interview with Fox News, Zelensky stated that he did not do anything wrong that would require him to apologize to Trump. After leaving the country following the Oval Office debate, Zelensky arrived in London yesterday morning for the summit he is set to attend today.
