Uncovered Deceptions in Food Products During Ramadan

Food inspections did not slow down during the month of Ramadan, with an updated list of unreliable foods. A company’s baklava was found to contain sunflower seeds. Deceptions were also discovered in sausage, cheese, and olive oil. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry expedited food inspections during Ramadan. The updated list included deceptions in sausage, olive oil, and baklava. With the latest update, the number of products on the imitation and adulteration-1 list rose to 1052, and the number on the imitation and adulteration-2 list increased to 80. The list of products that pose a risk to health included 199 items. A noteworthy finding from the March 6th list was sunflower seeds in pistachio baklava produced by one company. Chicken heads and offal were found in sausage, seed oil was detected in olive oil, and vegetable oil was found in white cheese.
