Unemployment Rate Reaches 8.6% in the Last Quarter

In the fourth quarter of 2024, the unemployment rate in Turkey reached 8.6%. The number of unemployed decreased by 23,000 compared to the previous quarter, dropping to 3,080,000. The unemployment rate saw a decrease of 0.1 percentage points to 8.6%. The unemployment rate was estimated at 6.9% for males and 11.8% for females. EMPLOYMENT RATE REACHES 49.6% During this period, the number of employed individuals increased by 141,000 compared to the previous quarter, reaching 32,755,000, with an employment rate of 49.6%, reflecting a 0.2 percentage point increase. The employment rate was 67% for men and 32.5% for women. LABOR FORCE PARTICIPATION RATE DECREASES In the fourth quarter of 2024, the labor force increased by 118,000 to reach 35,835,000, with a labor force participation rate of 54.2%, indicating a 0.1 percentage point increase. The labor force participation rate was 72% for males and 36.8% for females. UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DECREASES AMONG YOUNG POPULATION The unemployment rate among the youth aged 15-24 decreased to 16.1%, a 0.5 percentage point decrease compared to the previous quarter. In this age group, the unemployment rate was estimated at 12.6% for males and 22.5% for females. UNDEREMPLOYMENT RATE REACHES 28% The underutilization rate, consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force, and unemployed, increased by 1.4 percentage points to reach 28% during the same period. The integrated rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment was 18.5%, while the integrated rate of potential labor force and unemployed was estimated at 19.3%.
