One of the leading comedy clubs in England made a shocking decision after the audience failed to react to the jokes. The Top Secret Comedy Club has banned guests with botox from attending the show.

According to The Independent, the Top Secret Comedy Club, one of the UK’s prominent comedy clubs, has prohibited its guests from getting botox.

The club, which has hosted big names in comedy such as Jack Whitehall, Amy Schumer, and Dave Chappelle, took a harsh step due to concerns that stand-up comedians were facing unresponsive faces and the audience was not reacting to the jokes. Botox is a neuromodulator that inhibits muscle contractions to reduce wrinkles and has become popular in recent years. It is estimated that about a million botox injections are performed annually in the UK.

“LAST RESORT” Mark Rothman, the owner of the Top Secret Comedy Club, described the ban on getting botox as a “last resort” to prevent losing the artists who perform at the club.

Rothman stated, “Our incredibly talented comedians have grown tired of performing to unresponsive faces,” noting that measuring audience engagement is becoming increasingly difficult.

“IF YOU’RE SURPRISED, WE WANT TO SEE IT” While comedians support the decision, regular stand-up artist Andrew Mensah said, “Performing in front of a crowd with frozen faces can be incredibly challenging. Comedy is a two-way street; we thrive on the energy and reactions of the crowd.” With the new ban in place, individuals trained to identify botox have been assigned for identity checks. Rothman emphasized, “We take the ban very seriously, and if you’re surprised, we want to see it!” indicating that they expect a more natural atmosphere based on the audience’s reactions. The Top Secret Comedy Club hopes to provide a more efficient performance experience for comedians and audiences.
