Vice President Yılmaz: Unemployment Rate Beyond Medium-Term Program Target

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz announced that the unemployment rate had seen improvement beyond the Medium-Term Program target, reaching 8.7% in 2024. Evaluating the labor force statistics for 2024 released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on his social media account, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz emphasized the increase in labor force participation and the continued decline in unemployment, highlighting the economy’s ongoing job creation. He stated, “The unemployment rate decreased to 8.7% in 2024, marking a level of improvement beyond the Medium-Term Program target, reaching the lowest level since 2012. Our employment increased by approximately 1 million people, reaching 32.6 million in 2024.” Yılmaz pointed out the rise in labor force participation among women and youth, describing the decrease in unemployment as a positive development. He added, “We expect further economic strengthening with continued growth in employment, particularly among women and youth. Ensuring the welfare and purchasing power of our citizens, supporting our producers, and maintaining price stability are our top priorities. With the economic predictability we provide, political stability, and our focus on investment, employment, production, and export-oriented approach, we are steadily progressing towards our macroeconomic targets in 2025.
