Vodafone Introduces 5G Experience at Beşiktaş-Galatasaray Derby

Vodafone has completed the infrastructure setup at Beşiktaş Tüpraş Stadium and will introduce users to the 5G experience during the Beşiktaş-Galatasaray derby on March 29th. Users with 5G-supported phones will be able to access services through the new infrastructure.

Operating with a vision to lead Turkey’s digitalization, Vodafone continues its preparations for the road to 5G.

In this context, Vodafone has completed the 5G installation for the Beşiktaş-Galatasaray derby to be held at Beşiktaş Tüpraş Stadium on March 29th, starting to provide 5G signal throughout the stadium.

Users with 5G-supported devices who activate 5G from the device’s network settings and grant service permission can access services through the new infrastructure. Engin Aksoy, CEO of Vodafone Turkey, said, “We are continuing our preparations for 5G in collaboration with public authorities. As mobile operators, in this phase of the process that started at Istanbul Airport, we are introducing 5G technology to football fans at the stadiums of our four major clubs. We will also provide 5G signal during the Beşiktaş-Galatasaray derby at Beşiktaş Tüpraş Stadium on March 29th. Users with 5G-supported devices who activate 5G from the device’s network settings and grant service permission can experience this technology. Our subscriber base experiencing 5G services is increasing every day, and the expansion of such experience areas is beneficial for 5G preparations. Users can access details about 5G-supported phones on operators’ websites.”

“We conducted Turkey’s first stadium concert with a 5G test signal three years ago,” said Aksoy, emphasizing that they have been working on 5G for a long time. “5G will unlock unprecedented levels of productivity with its speed and capacity, reducing latency to a minimum and providing significant benefits to both individuals and the industrial environment.

Implemented in 14 countries so far

Leveraging the global experience of the Vodafone Group, which has implemented this technology in 14 countries, we have been working for a long time to make 5G available to our country’s institutions and individuals.

In this regard, we conducted a pilot study in Customized Mobile Network at Tofaş. Today, Tofaş benefits from this local network solution to connect people and objects in an area of approximately 1 million square meters. We completed Turkey’s first 5G Customized Mobile Network installation at MEXT, established by the Turkish Metal Industrialists’ Association, the world’s most comprehensive digital transformation and competency development center.

“We are delighted to bring 5G speed and quality to football fields as well”

Three years ago, we conducted Turkey’s first stadium concert with a 5G test signal. Last season, we enhanced the viewing experience of volleyball spectators with the 5G-supported Şahin Gözü system in the Vodafone Sultanlar League play-off finals series for both the audience in the hall and those watching on screen. During the Volleyball Nations League, we installed 5G in Antalya Sports Hall and enabled real-time statistics and measurements to be sent to other broadcasters worldwide via 5G.

This season, we are using the 5G-supported Şahin Gözü system in Burhan Felek Vestel Volleyball Hall for regular season matches and Play-Off 1-4 Stage matches. We are delighted to bring 5G speed and quality to football fields following volleyball.”
