The vote of no confidence highlighted concerns about the fact that two years after the accident in which 57 people died, those responsible had not been identified and punished. The vote also expressed discomfort with the opinion that the government shares responsibility in the infrastructure conditions that led to the accident. It was emphasized that following the extensive anti-government demonstrations held nationwide on the anniversary of the accident on February 28, a crisis of trust towards the government was experienced.ATHENS STREETS IN TURMOIL After the discussions on the vote of no confidence proposal in parliament, the streets of Athens descended into chaos. Protesters gathered in front of the parliament building, chanting slogans and demanding accountability for those responsible. Negligence related to the accident was also demanded to be revealed. A clash erupted between a group of protesters and the police. Protesters threw rocks and molotov cocktails at the police and set fire to trash containers. The police responded to the events with tear gas. Numerous individuals were arrested during the events. A group of activists conducted a sit-in protest in front of the parliament building. Following the discussions on the vote of no confidence in the Greek parliament, on the evening of March 7, the government will seek a vote of confidence. If the government fails to secure a vote of confidence, the country may head toward early elections.
