Water Crisis in Gaza: 9 out of 10 People Struggle with Lack of Clean Water

According to a report by UNICEF, access to clean water in the Gaza Strip has become almost impossible. As the humanitarian crisis deepens in the region, millions of people are struggling to find water to survive. The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) announced that in the Gaza Strip, only 1 out of every 10 people can access clean and drinkable water, with 90% of the population fighting to access clean water to stay alive. As reported by the official Palestinian agency WAFA, Rosalia Poulin, UNICEF’s representative in Gaza, stated that in November 2024, access to drinking water had been provided for approximately 600,000 people, but the water sources were cut off again, worsening the humanitarian crisis in the region. Poulin emphasized that the water shortage in Gaza has reached critical levels, with only one out of every 10 people currently able to access safe drinking water, and 90% of the population struggling to find clean water to survive. International humanitarian organizations stress the vital importance of fuel for access to clean water, health services, proper waste disposal to prevent diseases, and the operation of wastewater facilities for the millions of displaced people in Gaza. UN agencies highlight that more than 1.8 million people in the region, over half of whom are children, urgently need clean water and healthcare assistance.
