Will Egg Prices Increase? Turkey Exporting 15 Thousand Tons to the USA

The avian flu crisis in the USA has become an opportunity for Turkish producers. Turkey has started exporting eggs to the USA after 2 years. The 15 thousand tons of exports will be completed by July. Industry representatives said this export will not affect prices in the domestic market.

The USA is working to control the spread of avian flu, first detected in Texas at the end of last March and spreading to different states. Since April, avian flu has infected about 70 people in the USA, with one death; most cases have been seen among farm workers exposed to infected poultry or cows.

Due to avian flu, many poultry have been culled in the country, leading to an egg shortage in the USA.

USA TO IMPORT EGGS FROM TURKEY IN 2 YEARS After these developments, the USA imported eggs from Turkey, last done in January 2023. The Egg Producers Central Union (EPU-ONE) President Ibrahim Afyon stated that due to the egg supply shortage, the USA turned to alternative import markets, with US companies contacting them.

Afyon announced that they have reached an agreement for approximately 15 thousand tons in this context.

He said that 700 container loads will be shipped, with shipments starting in February and completed by early July.

Afyon expressed that this agreement corresponds to approximately $26 million in export revenue.

WILL PRICES RISE BEFORE RAMADAN?

Afyon stated that there is more production than domestic consumption in Turkey, therefore, there will be no negative impact of the exports on the domestic market supply or egg prices.
