Woman Mistook Stomach Pain for Food Poisoning, Dies 36 Hours Later: Could You Be at Risk?

After witnessing her seemingly healthy husband’s sudden death due to what she thought was food poisoning, a woman in London experienced a great trauma. Andrejs Glazyrina, a 35-year-old man, passed away from acute pancreatitis, a severe inflammation of the pancreas, which is part of the digestive system. While pancreatitis is typically a condition that develops due to excessive alcohol consumption or gallstones, it can sometimes occur without any clear reason. Though rare, this condition can be fatal. Glazyrina’s fatal illness began while he was on vacation in Bulgaria in January with his wife Katerina and their five-year-old daughter Lizzie. A day before the family returned to London, Glazyrina started complaining of stomach pain. His wife and himself assumed that the pain was a result of food poisoning they experienced a few days earlier. However, within a few hours, the pain began to radiate to his back and his abdomen became sensitive to touch. Katerina went to the pharmacy to get medications, but they did not provide any relief. Realizing the severity of the situation, Glazyrina said, “His face started to pale, so we canceled the flight and called an ambulance.” Upon being transported to the hospital by ambulance, Glazyrina received a diagnosis of pancreatitis after undergoing tests. Katerina bid her husband farewell at the hospital that morning, with her husband reassuring her, saying, “Don’t worry, I’ll be back home soon.” However, later in the day, Glazyrina’s condition deteriorated significantly, leading to intensive care due to multiple organ failure. The next morning, Katerina received a devastating phone call informing her that her husband had passed away during the night. She expressed the deep pain she experienced by saying, “It was the hardest day of my life. I don’t know how I got through it.” She added, “It’s like going on a vacation and realizing that the life you built together will never return.” According to the NHS, symptoms of pancreatitis include a sudden and worsening severe pain in the middle of the abdomen that can spread to the back. Katerina also hopes to encourage parents to get life insurance and adds.
