Today, the world’s attention turned to the summit on Ukraine held in the UK. The summit discussed issues such as security guarantees for Ukraine and achieving lasting peace in the country. Representing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan attended the summit. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced an agreement on providing military aid to Ukraine and maintaining economic pressure on Russia. The summit was convened in London following tensions between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Initiated by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan represented Turkey at the summit held in London. State leaders and ministers from countries including Ukraine, France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Czech Republic, and Romania participated in the summit. Prime Minister Starmer stated that an agreement was reached on providing military aid to Ukraine and maintaining economic pressure on Russia. He emphasized that Ukraine’s defense capabilities would increase once a peace agreement is reached.

Starmer emphasized the need for action instead of further discussion at the current stage. He disagreed with the view that the US is an unreliable ally. Starmer mentioned that some countries expressed their willingness to be part of Europe’s plan for Ukraine and believed that positive results would be achieved from the US. Additionally, the summit discussed the role the US would take in supporting Ukraine and providing security guarantees to the country.

French President Emmanuel Macron was among the first leaders to arrive at Lancaster House. Prime Minister Starmer mentioned that they agreed with Ukraine to work on a plan to end the war, which would later be discussed with the US. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk were seen in the area where the summit would take place. Prime Minister Starmer welcomed the leaders at the door and accompanied them inside.

Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni was the first leader to arrive and had a bilateral meeting with Starmer. The summit in London is seen as part of the process of determining Europe’s position against the backdrop of the normalization process between the US and Russia that began in February.
